We are travelling to loas in Oct and are wondering if there is now a northern border crossing to North Vietman? We would like to travel Vietnam North to South and would prefer not to enter central Vietnam which would mean some back tracking. Has anyone some info on this?

There is no border crossing to North Vietnam which is open to foreign tourists. Of the now 5 overland border crossings, the most northern one is still south of Hanoi. As of 29 oct you can fly from Luang Prabang to Hanoi.
Pls check www.vietnamtourism.com for more info in the border crossing section.
