Hello forum!
I'm trying to figure out the best way (i.e. cheapest) to get to Vientiane or Luang Prabang by air from KL.
I would prefer to fly direct but if that isn't possible , or if it would be cheaper to go with a few stops, i wouldn't mind.
BUT, and here is an other question, if I'd flew via Bangkok would i then "trigger" my second entry (i'm on a double entry tourist visa), or could i get a transit visa at the airport without having to cancel or trigger my existing visa??
If any of you have information or know of know of options to the above, i would be tremendously grateful.
(i should probably mention that the main reason for wanting to enter Laos from a int. airport is that i would get a 30 day visa on arrival).

what's your nationality?
entering Laos via land crossings will also get you 30-day visa on arrival for most nationalities.
cheapest from KL: Air Asia KUL (LCCT) > Vientiane.
no direct flights to Luang Prabang.

Hi wanderingcat, thanks for the rep.
I'm Swedeish (EU), and i've been searching the Lao embassy Swedish site without any luck. However, all the info i've come across so far suggests entrering Laos via a land crossing is a 15 day only.
If anyone can confirm either way it would be great!

they were already giving out 30-day visa on arrival at land crossings back in late 2006. 3 years on, many guidebooks & websites have yet to update their info. visa fee depends on nationality:
USD35 for most (e.g. UK)
USD42 for a few like Canadians
much less for those from other communist nations
heard that these rates have increased by USD2 since, but i can't dig up the details now.
extra USD1 fee on weekends at certain land crossings, & also if you don't have passport photos ready.
best to pay in USD, more expensive if you pay in Thai baht (official rate is B1500 for the USD35 fee).
in addition, 60-day tourist visa for Laos reported to be available from Lao embassies in certain places e.g. Canberra, Singapore, Bangkok & USA.
hope this helps.
