Having been on one tour to the Pak Ou caves and being herded like sheep, on and off boats, in and out of temples, caves, villages etc, met by locals sellling the usual sounvenirs, I was keen to see the city as I wanted to and away from the usual tourist circuit and crowds!
I stayed at a great Guest House - Chantonome, Off Ounkham Road and a guy working there was very helpful, answering all my queries about what to see and do, which led to hime unforcefully he offered to tailor make a cycle tour for me. Dubious at first, I was pleasantly surprised. It was fabulous and much cheaper than the standard tours so I would highly recommend using his services. He was very knowledgeable about Laos history and traditions and his English was very good. Please contact Mr Lae at Lovevilayvong@yahoo.com or at the Chantanome Guest House, off Ounkham Rd 020 770060
