So I have three full days off work with a half day before and a half day after that for travelling. How can I get from Bangkok to Vang Vieng as directly as possible with minimum travel time. Or maybe someone could let me know how long it takes to travel if you can't get flights?
Thanks

There are no flights to Vang Vieng. Probably the easiest way is to fly to Vientiane and then take a bus or mini bus to VV. If you want a cheaper option, you could fly to Udon Thani with Air Asia and then take a mini bus to Vientiane, but this will take considerably longer, of course.

Thanks Rufus, a friend said the same thing. I think I'll fly to Udon Thani and get a minivan to Vang Vieng. Have you any idea how long it takes? Ballpark?

You won't be able to get a mini van from Udon to VV. Well you might, but it would be a Thai mini van and would be far too expensive; they also drive on the other side of the road. Your best option really is to take the bus from Vientiane, (about 4 to 4 1/2 hours), or a mini van, (about 3 hours).

Btw, it will take you about 2 hours from Udon to Vientiane once you clear immigration etc etc. A taxi to the border from the airport is another option and you should get one for about 1200 Baht.

hi there,
just wanted to clarify:
from BKK fly to Udon then take a taxi/mini van to vientiane (approx. 2 hours)
then in vientiane grab another mini bus to vang vieng (approx 4 hours)
also, how much can i expect these two trips to cost (apart from 1200b taxi)
thanks
