Any buses going from Huay Xai to Muang Sing ? Or do I have to take the bus to Luang Nam Tha , then transfer to another bus to Muang Sing?
I read some posts about the Gibbon experience but that is not in my plan.
I was planning on Huay Xai to Muang Sing to Luang Nam Tha to Udomxai, hoping not to have to backtrack.

no direct bus.
Huay Xai > LNT new bus station: ~3.5+h bus
LNT new bus station > LNT old bus station: tuktuk
LNT old bus station > Muang Sing : ~2h songthaew
see sections on Bokeo & LNT provinces here:

you can ask to be let off along the main road in Muang Sing where most of the guesthouses are (Wat Sing Jai is a good landmark) else you'll end up a 15+min walk away at the bus station near the (relocated) market. best maps of both LNT & Muang Sing towns i've seen are at hobomaps.com.
