Hello everyone,
we will be visiting Laos end March/begin April. We'll have 15 days.
What are the best places to visit at that time of year (taking in account the weather conditions : hot, smokey,...)
For now, we plan to go : Vientiane, Vang Vieng, Luang Prabang and then Nong Khiaw or Luang Nam Tha (?) before exiting to Thailand.
Can we go from Luang Prabang to Nong Khiaw via the river or will the water be to low?
Will the climate at the Plain of Jars will be more comfortable compaired to the north (eg. in Luang Nam Tha)?
Is it advisable (do-able) to do a 2-day trekking?
thanks a lot for every info!
regards,
Ben

Hi Bending Unit:
We were in Luang Prabang last year (22-28 March '09). There was not much smoke at all, and it was noticeable only first thing in the morning. The owner of the guest house we stayed in (Villa Laodeum) told us that the smoke had been worse a couple of weeks earlier.
As to your other questions, I cannot answer from personal experience.
Happy travels!

The Nong Khiaw to Luang Prabang boats appear to still be running, but who knows by the end of the month when river levels could be even lower. Usually by April there will be at least a couple decent rains which takes away the smog pretty quickly, but it will still be very hot otherwise. The Plain of Jars is on a higher plateau and definitely cooler especially at night.
