Hi there,
My friend and I are doing Vietnam South to North, with our last or one of our last stop off points being Sapa.
So I was wondering what is the most northern point I can enter Laos from Vietnam, and how easy is it to get there from Sapa?
Much Appreciated,
Tom

Sorry to double post. I have just been reading up about it and it looks like the Tay Trang crossing is the most Northern, would anybody be able to confirm this?

Worth noting that the road on the Lao side is in appalling condition due to extensive roadworks. A week or so ago the trip from Dien Bien to Muang Khua was taking 10-12 hours by bus.
Have fun!

Thankyou both.
somtam2000, do you know when these road works are expected to finish?
Cheers.

No I don't know sorry. The people I talked to at Muang Khua described the road works as completely rearranging the landscape...

Hey,
I know this is an old post but I saw on this site:
http://traveltolaostips.blogspot.com/2009/05/lao-border-crossing.html
that there are no visas issued at the border. I'm planning to cross into Laos from Vietnam. Is this true that you can't get a laos visa from this crossing?
Thanks

I think i'm mistaken.
You can't get a visa entering vietnam at this crossing but you can get a laos visa

No train in Laos at all (except for a small strech near Khone Falls)
Bus goes from Dien Bien Phu to Muang Khua and vice versa every day.
