We stayed at the Nalinthone Guest House in Vientiane in Jan. 2007. It is on Fa Ngum Road on the west side of town, about 600 meters past where the road pavement ends. Go past the Mekong River Comission Building about 3 "Blocks". This is the nicest place I have ever stayed in my life! It's an old colonial villa, facing the Mekong, newly remodeled, shiney and spotless. Beautiful balcony for watching the sunrises and sunsets on the river. The river flows east-west, so you can enjoy both. A double room, with a/c, private bath with hot water, TV was 600 Bhats. Staff was friendly and helpful. It's a little distance from the center of town, but worth it if you want to stay at a really beautiful place.
