The Villa Aekham hotel/guesthouse just opened in Vang Vieng. Suitable for flashpackers, it's one of the few true midrange options in Vang Vieng. Double rooms with cable tv, air con, ceiling fan, mini bar (well priced), etc. Beds are comfortable. Rooms are quiet. Rooms are sparsely decorated, but white sheets and a silk runner (no tacky puppy sheets here) plus an armoire to store clothes (a nice touch). There is a shared balcony with nice views over the river. It's next to Elephant Crossing, just south. This place is family-run by a very friendly couple, and is much better value for the same mod-cons.

Nice place agreed. However, we recently stayed here and our room got broken into and our things stolen. The owners were helpful - unlike the police. Just beware as this same situation has happened to others also but at other guesthouses around Vang Vieng (talking to fellow travellers in immigration in Vientiane). The side stairs, and vacant block next door make this place a likely target for thief’s.
