In Nong Khiaw - about 100 yards from the bridge (opposite side from bus station) on the right hand side a family has set up a herbal steam bath and massage in their house, building on knowledge that's been in the family for generations. For 50,000 kip you get a massage (fully clothed, by someone of same sex) then this wonderful herbal steam bath. All very friendly. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
In Luang Prabang you can have a similar, if slightly more professional feeling, experience at Lao traditional steam bath and massage on Souvanna Khampong Road by the Mekong. Stunning setting, lovely friendly people. Again highly recommended.
