Does anyone know the rough cost of a taxi from KLIA to Melaka? I know there is a bus but we land at 16.30 and no bus til 20.15, which is a pain. Apologies if this question has been answered before - not sure how to search for that.

If you would like to preorder a car to pick you up from the airport gate and drop you anywhere Melaka please call 0102534365. The rate is 50 USD. Enjoy Malaysia!!
I saw this posted on another forum - "The express buses from KL to Maleka for a 2 hour journey only costs MR 8? does that sound right? it's approximately $3 USD?"

Thank you dene_aus and realasia. 50 USD sounds worth it for two of us in the circumstances. Not going till next January but for some reason accommodation in Melaka is getting very booked up already so needed to plan ahead!
Why on earth would you want to pay $50, when you can pay $6 for both of you? You're worried about accommodation being booked now for Jan.? I don't get it?

I know it sounds crazy altmti, but as I explained in original query, the timing of our flight would mean a long wait for the direct bus and then arriving in Melaka very late in the evening. Alternative would be to bus in to KL itself and bus out again to Melaka. A lot of hassle for little time gain. As for accommodation, I have been checking on line to see what places cost and found that several of the places we would like to stay in are already full. I don't get it either, but there you go!
Ok I get it about the time thing, but I don't book hotels online, I just show up or call the day before... during 3 months this Jan-Feb-March in Thailand and Laos (and I've been to Malaysia) did I ever pre-pay for a room online.

We do that a lot of the time, too. In this case we will be flying in after 4 weeks in Myanmar (where we wouldn't be able to prebook simple accommodation anyway) and wanted to stay somewhere nice with a bit of history to it. Haven't had to prepay, just use a card to secure reservation.
BTW I misread your first post initially and thought you were asking the question 'Is this right? Otherwise I would have thanked you for your help too. Apologies.

It wouldn't surprise me if it cost anywhere between 50-100 USD
