malaysia & Bali 3 weeks?

Posted by sootz05 on 25/4/2013 at 22:26

Hi guys, looking for a bit of help with our next trip. Planning just over 3 weeks around malaysia and Bali Feb 2014. We've done quite a bit of travelling around asia but not yet ventured to these parts but for this trip were looking for great beaches, clear waters, good night life and that all important backpackers vibe!!
Weve heard Mabul island and Manukan island in Sabah are beautiful but other than these not really saw much else to do in these parts so any ideas will be great.
Oh also heard perhentian island is ment to be amazing but not sure if it will be worth visiting weather wise at the time of year we are visiting.

So, so far are trips goes: fly into KL stay a night, then fly to sabah goto mabul island and manukan island both for 3 nights each then fly to Bali for 12nights then KL then home.

Any extra added ideas or help will be much appreciated.
cheers
Danielle

hi sootz95,
1)mabul island+ semporna= southest part of Sabah, internal flight will be need if you come from KK(or else you fly from KL straight to Lahad Dato, than after 3 days Mabul, take flight or bus to KK (Kota Kinabalu), than to Manukan. Manukan is biggest island out of 5 island of TAR Marine park, but it is crowded , if you want quiet and more nice island in this area, go to Layang-Layang, stay 2 nights there, than from there back KK and to Bali.
2)Perhentian is at east coast of Penisular of Malaysia, totally different way from Sabah, maybe you focus Sabah will be better, if not time will quite tight to visit Perhentian.
3) if you like to do hiking, try Kinabalu National Park, scenic view, 88km from KK, at least 2 days.
4)Bali, 12 days was not really enough, depends what you want, go to Nusa dua beach, quiet and clean beach.

cheers,

wly
