Perhentian Islands..

    i want to make a border run from southern thailand to extend my visa stay, i was looking into staying at the perhentian islands. ill probably be crossing the border roughly in early-mid january. is this a bad time to visit the islands[monsoon period]??? is the entire northern part of malaysia rainy during january?

    Yes, bad weather, most, though not all the guesthouses on the islands will be closed and the boat services will be less frequent -- p'haps just one a day.

    January is not an ideal time to visit the Perhentians.

    Maybe you should consider Penang island? There's some beaches there too, although definitely not comparable to the idyllic Perhentians.

    Penang is also much easier and faster to get to from Had Yai (or most places in S. Thailand).

    how about staying on the perhentians in the next days? will the weather be ok for some snorkelling an relaxing on the beach? or which spot would you recommend for sept/okt?
