malaysian weather september/october

  • annalouise

We are off to Kuala Lumpur in the late Sept to early October.
The weather details seem to be all over the place. Any suggestions from other travelers on which sites we should go to this time of year? We are taking our three children. We dont want to be hiding out in shopping centres the whole time. We would like to experience the culture as well. Should we be worried about the rain?

It rains regularly year-round in Kuala Lumpur. Sept/Oct isn't the driest time of year, but it isn't the wettest either. It tends to rain in the late afternoon/early evening, so start your days early for the best weather.

How long do you have in Malaysia? Around Kuala Lumpur you can visit museums, zoos, the Batu Caves, etc. If you have more time, you might be interested in places like the Cameron Highlands, Taman Negara rainforest, or the historical city of Melaka.

Sept/Oct is still OK weather for the east coast islands, so you could visit the Perhentians or Pulau Tioman for pristine beaches and great snorkeling.

This is for all those visitors who are wondering the same as annalouise. The real rainy season in Malaysia is November and December. This is when flooding occurs and the wind also peaks, especially at the East Coast.

January and February are considered monsoon months too, but from January onwards, the skies are blue, there's hardly any rain (no rain for over a week now here in Singapore) and there's a lovely cool breeze blowing almost non-stop. Best of all the humidity is way down.

To answer this question, late Sept to early October are not particularly rainy, apart from an afternoon squall perhaps. But these are quite welcome because they tend to cool things down a bit.
