We are currently in Siem Reap, Cambodia and own a Minsk (with vietnamese plates and papers) and a dirt bike (with cambodian plates no papers). We are planning on heading across the border into Laos at Dong Kralor then spend 1 month in Lao before crossing into Thailand on the same bikes (cross at either the Nong Khai friendship bridge or at Chaing Khong/Huay Xai in the north)
Firstly, is this possible as one of the bikes has no papers? Also, we have heard stories on various forums about having to get insurance at the borrder and officials only allowing a 1 week visa for Laos plus you need paperwork for them to stamp....Very confused - has anyone out there attempted this and if so what were the conditions?
Thanks! any advice appreciated!

I'd also be interested in this, Vietnam to Cambodia to Laos in any order. Either owning or renting a bike.

Hi guys
I have done many border trips and I have a viet motorbike plate . The only bikes that can be brought in to vietnam are viet bikes with bluecard reg docs . These can be taken into cambodia and laos and taihland . No foreighn bike is allowed into vietnam with out a passage de carnai . If you have lost papers to any bike foget about it . the police will impound it at the next pullover . any bike with out papers is worth 50 bucks if you find some one who will break it for parts
I have seen back packers sell on bikes with out papers saying you only need papers for boarder crossings . This is a total lie you need papers for a bike period
Laos has always been hit and miss one week they let bikes in with out batting an eyelid next they are all over you . and another its just no way so suck it and see . never had probs with thailand but get your visa at an embassy before you go as the rules at the boarder visa on entry overland have changed recently Good luck johny
