Hi all,
My girlfriend has to leave Indonesia at the beginning of September and has 10 days - 2 weeks to kill before meeting me in Saigon. She's considering making a stop in the Philippines for this time but is worried about security.
Would you recommend the Philippines for a solo female traveller? If so where (for 10 days approx)?
Thanks

"Mostly Harmless" just like the updated Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy entry on Earth would say. Outside of the ARMM and Sulu, there are areas where normal safety precautions are fine.
This time of the year, it would be best to avoid the typhoon belt and stick to the Central and WesternVisayas/Palawan/Mindanao.

Pollito,
What is your GF looking for? Boracay is a popular destination and is a party place. But it has lost its idyllic charm so I don't want to go back.
Northern Palawan is beautiful. You are looking at Coron/Busuanga for that.
Cebu is a hub for exploring the Visayas. From Cebu you can go to whichever island strikes your GF's fancy. Bohol is a charming place and a popular destination. Siquijor and Camiguin are not as popular but they have their attractions too.
If she would rather go to the mountains, than perhaps Malaybalay in Bukidnon.

It depends on what your GF is interested in.
If she likes hanging out, sun bathing and getting tanned, she can visit the beautiful beaches like
1. The Pearl Farm in Davao
2. Misimis Bay in Albay
3. Caramoan Islands in Cam Sur
4. Boracay
5. Amanpulo in Palawan
If she would like to go shopping, she can hang out in the country's capital, Manila! Places she can go shopping is at The Mall of Asia in Pasay City, Ayala Makati (the business capital of Manila) is a great spot to go shopping as well as there are several malls sitting beside each other on that area and the place is surrounded by 5 star hotels.
She can also go sight seeing and visit Vigan, Baguio, Bohol, Cebu.
The Philippines is very safe on the Luzon and Visayas regions and for sure she will enjoy her 10day vacation.
