I am a 33 year old single father ,I love Asia and have been a few time, (thailand, korea, japan, hong kong, and the philippines) however I have always traveld solo this time I am looking to take along my young daughter age 4, and after pain full separation we need a change. We will be leaving Canada on the 4 th of February total trip time could last for up to 90 days
We're not looking for much but a nice quiet place on a beach and maybe some nice company to get our minds off the misery of life
A good friend who has been to Vietnam say to go there but I'm not sure if this is the place for me.I have never been and don't no the place at all and were ever we go we want to be as safe as possible. I will be with the only person in my life who means anything to me that goes with out saying.
I would like any and all advice you have to give ,, would Vietnam be better i have always wanted to see it and hear the food it the best. I choose not to go to THAILAND as it is such a tourist trap and foreigners are taken for such a ride there and get very little respect.
Safety as well as food hygiene are a major factor ,, we are Canadians who live in the high arctic and have strong stomach I'm not so much worried about mine as much as hers.
Cebu or Palawan El Nido have been my top choice but nothing is set in stone yet open to all suggestions and comment
Mainly one beach one place not much moving around would like to take up routes so to speak

I live in Philippines and have travelled around extensively here but have spent two months in Vietnam during 2011 and 2012(and a week in Saigon in 1993). Hotels are half the price of Philippines and much better quality, the food is better IMHO and travelling is relatively easy.As far as safety is concerned I have had no issues or concerns. Consider also a trip to Cambodia and Vietnam and if you still want to go to Philippines then there are budget flights on Cebu Pacific to Manila from Siem Reap,Saigon and Hanoi

I understand you need some quiet and peaceful place. I agree that Cebu and El Nido are possible options. Other places that you might want to look into are:
Guimaras, Bacolod, Iloilo, and Dumaguete. Perhaps even Siquijor.
Sagada is not a beach destination but it does have a really peaceful idyllic vibe. If I needed some quiet time, it would be high on my list of places.
Re: Food safety, the smaller islands have it better than the big cities. The big cities like Metro-Manila have to depend on industrial farms for food. While in the provinces, it is easier to find free-range pork, chicken and chevon.

I also think you should reconsider Thailand. Perhaps because I live here, my perspective is different and I don't spend much time in tourist areas. Language is also, of course, a challenge here for newcomers (but not insurmountable). There are some nice beach locations in Trat that do not have a lot of tourists (except Koh Chang, which draws some) of any type where I think you will find that Thai people there do respect foreigners and will dote on your daughter without end (they certainly do mine). It's nice to see a father take his parental responsibilities seriously though. I hope you have a great trip wherever you go. Let us know how it works out.

If you get to Cebu you might also visit Bohol, then by direct boat from Jagna (Bohol) to Camiguin.
From Camiguin you can go back to Cebu via Cagayan de Oro City.
Bohol is a beautiful place and there is so much to see (Chocolate Hills, river cruise, tasiers) and you can have a few relaxing days at the beach in Panglao in one of the many resorts. Camiguin is a place you should see as well. The small island hosts 7 volcanos and lots of natural wonders. It's a quiet, natural and unspoilt place. The people are very friendly. You can spent several days here going to White Island, Mantique Island, waterfalls, hot and cold springs. It's a truly unique place. If you arrive at the port of Benoni, you can ask one of the drivers to take you to Yumbing where a lot of nice and affordable cottages are rented out. If you go there during holy week, book ahead as many Filipino's go to Camiguin on pilgrimage up the volcano.
If you decide to go to Camiguin i can recommend you a nice place to stay. Just let me know.

Keep us posted Arctic on how the trip goes. Breakups are hard, especially when you have children. It's nice to see a father taking a real interest in his child. A lot don't. If I could give one word of advice (having experience on this one): Don't demonize her mother, whatever she might have done. Mother's are sacred to their children. Good luck and enjoy the rest of your trip.
