  • JamesATaber

Can someone recommend a nice guesthouse/appartment/hotel with large and clean rooms. we are a couple and are planning to stay for 4 night in early December for general tourist stuff...

    I have the following wishes/requirements:
    - free wifi in room
    - quiet in the room
    - clean
    - non smoking
    - not in the red light district
    - family friendly
    - "near" MRT

Our budget is aroung 80 Singapore dollars...

Thanks for your help and time in advance

    Hi James,

pardon me if you are offended. SGD 80 isn't much in Singapore. To have a decent stay you gotta splash out at least SGD 180/night. Even the Hotel 81 in Bendemeer street (Backpacker hotel) need 129/night and this we consider a "LOVE" hotel.

Your wishes/requirements aren't a problem looking for that particular rooms you want, but your budget will not have what you want.

    Hi husin,

I am absolutely not offended. Its my fault that I didn't check the hotel prices before I posted the questions here.

If we increase the budget to SGD 200 any recommendations?

Husun is right -- $80 doesn't go far in Singapore. It would get you a double room with a shared bathroom at one of the backpacker places, or a budget hotel room outside the city centre like the Value Hotel, Balestier -- http://www.valuehotel.com.sg/ -- which is pretty modern, but tiny rooms.

The Hotel Ibis is quite new, downtown near a few MRT stations, and definitely has free WiFi. It's a big hotel so I can't say how quiet it is, though.... on weekends prices go way up, but on weekdays you can usually get a good rate under $200 SGD -- http://www.ibishotel.com/gb/hotel-6657-ibis-singapore-on-bencoolen/index.shtml

The Albert Court hotel is a nice place, but I think they want $$ for WiFi unless you book a package that includes it -- advance booking rates are from $160 SGD -- http://www.albertcourt.com.sg/

If you don't mind a homey environment, the Waterloo Hostel has big rooms and a great location that somehow manages to be both right downtown and quiet/peaceful. Prices are great for Singapore (from $90 SGD for a double room with attached bath) and they'll probably give you an additional discount for a multi-night stay, but it's not the most modern place -- small TV, older building, etc. http://www.waterloohostel.com.sg/

There's also the YMCA International House which is pretty good. Rack rates are high, but they usually have a promotion that makes a double room around $150. http://www.ymcaih.com.sg

I found Victoria Hotel to be very good - quiet, clean, free Wifi/internet, close to MRT, near a local (cheap) food market as well as close to more upmarket restaurants. I would definitely stay here again.

Rooms are going for $119/night on this website (http://www.agoda.com/asia/singapore/singapore/victoria_hotel.html#info) although I would pick a hotel, then search the various accom booking websites to find a cheaper rate.

Singapore is amazing!! I loved it and I think about it so much!!! Don't worry too much. I didn't plan, it's so easy to find your way around there, you'll probably fall on your feet.
If you get a train to orchard road stop (think it's a red line but it will be so easy to work out I promise) and get off there is loads of shops. There are so many shopping centers.
Hostel world is good, or look on the accommodation on this website. Hostels are cheap and good value in Singapore.
    Hope this is helpful?
    thanks...
