In late evening and out very early next day. Only hotel at airport very expensive. Any suggestions on reasonable accomodations nearby?

Welcome to Travelfish!
Unfortunately there's nothing budget focused near the new airport -- your best bet is heading in to something on Sukhumvit Road -- the Sawasdee Sukhumvit Inn is on Sukhumvit Soi 57 and is not a bad option...though you're still a good 20-40 minute taxi ride (depending on traffic, if you're in late you should get a good run) from the airport
