Hi
I found these 2 hotels on the internet and am wondering 2 things.
- Has anyone heard of them? (reputation good or bad).
- Are they in a central location or in the middle of nowhere?
1st one:
Sawasdee Sukhumvit Inn.
123 Soi Sukhumvit 57, Sukhumvit Rd.
(800 baht a night)
2nd one:
Woraburi Hotel + Resort.
128/1 Sukumit Soi 4, Klongtoey
(875 baht a night).
I am looking for a place to stay that I guess I would describe as 1 1/2 stars. Above a hostel/dorm accommodation and below the mid-range (1500 baht/nt).
The word "soi" in Thai is a name for a side street that comes off the main street. For both of the hotels you mention, you are on Sukhumvit Road, the main sort of tourist ghetto and shopping area for the more well-heeled visitors to the Kingdom. Sorry, I don't know the specific hotels you mention, so can't say if they are good or not. But the one on Sukhumvit 57 is sort of east of town, near the end of the Skytrain route and conveniently located if you are taking a bus out of the Ekkamai station to Pattaya, Koh Samet, and other places along the eastern seaboard. The one on Sukhumvit Soi 4 is sort of smack in the middle of one of the more popular areas for shopping and nightlife in Bangkok. This is a busy and croweded part of town to be sure. It would depend on what kinds of things you want to do to decide which area is best for you. Cheers.
I'm familiar with both places -- they're fine -- I'm not sure why they're not listed on Travelfish -- an oversight I guess.
Worth noting that Sukhumvit Soi 4 (also known as Soi Nana) has a large bunch of girlie bars and stuff aimed primarily at sex-pats -- if that isn't your scene, you may want to look elsewhere.
The Atlanta has its fans, though also a fair share of detractors.

You see somtam2000. THAT is why this is a amazing site!
Yes - girlie bars is not the Thailand I am seeking!
The Atlanta I have tried to look at but there is not link to view the rooms.
Decent?
And Sawasdee Krungthep Inn - are they still snooty?
Thanks! And keep up this amazing website. It has become my 1st stop for my upcoming trip research.

Oops - their website does have links. Their first page is so long and goes into their caveat that I didn't think it was a real hotel website.
