Hello hello wonderful Travelfish forumgoers,
Firstly, thanks to all contributors for an amazing website and extremly useful and active forum that is absolutely indispensable to anyone planning a trip to SE Asia.
Flattery aside, I wanted to ask a question about a trip from 25/06/2010 to 17/07/2010, which is going to be a real whistlestop tour of the area, taking in (very little of) Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. It's going to be quite tight but I think very enjoyable.
I fly in and out of BKK on Air India via Delhi - and my return flight on 17th June is at 20.30. Ho Chi Minh City is the last stop on our tour - and obviously I'm plannig to fly from HCMC to Bangkok in order to make my evening flight. It looks to me like there are a few good options: Air Asia fly cheaply but arriving at 11ish in the morning, meaning a full day on the airport... There's alsol one on Thai Airways that lands at about 1.30, which is therefore marginally better, but what might be the ideal option is on Vietnam Airlines, landing at 18.30. But I think that 2 hours transfer time is too little to clear security (I should hopefully only have hand baggage) and check-in for my Air India flight.
Has anyone had any experience of this? Also, I heard/read somewhere that BKK airport has 4-hour trips out to various places that depart from and return to the airport - has anyone been on one of these as this might eat up some airport hours...
Thanks very much for the advice and help!
Peter
