Guys, can you offer advise, i have been trying to reserve a first class sleeper from Nakon Pathom to Surat Thani on the 9th October, we will arrive into BKK on the 4th and i have been advised to reserve etc, the website "thairailwayticket"still states that is is temporary out of service, and has been since September 01. is there another way of booking on line from "good ol blighty"(UK)

Lots of good information in this thread:

I recommend checking out:
http://www.seat61.com/Thailand.htm
They have several recommendations for agents that can help you out for a service fee.

Will you need this reservation 9 October next year? You have plenty of time between now and then to get it.
Unless you mean another month like November or December.
From when you arrive in Bangkok to when you need the train how many days in between? You may be able to book your tickets in person unless you plan on landing at BKK and immediately leaving the city.
This company claims that they can get the tickets for you:

Seat 61 is always helpful.
Good luck.
