I am interested in taking one of the elephant mahout courses offered in Thailand. The only one with a website that I can find is the Elephant Conservation Center just outside Lampang which offers courses ranging from 3,500 - 8,000 baht. These prices are a bit out of my range. Does anyone else have any suggestions?
Thanks so much.

I researched this issue for us and concluded that the ECC was it, the prices about doubled 2 months ago, I think the original intention had been to up the 3 day "course" to 10,000baht. Many people recommend the http://www.elephantnaturepark.org/tour/tourd.htm but that is not a mahout course, We also considered the http://www.elephantstay.com/ at Ayuthaya and http://www.elephants-friends.com/travelinfo.html near Kanchanaburi. That was the sum of my research apart from the various places advertising rides and shows in the North.
