Hello all,
I am planning on going to the new year's eve full moon party in Ko Pha Ngan , but it seems at this point will be next to impossible to get accommodations in Ko Pha Ngan without paying too much or having to stay the requisite 5-7 nights, so I've just decided to stay in Samui and take one of the boats to the party.
Now my question is, what area of Samui should I stay to make this easier? any recommendations on hostels/guesthouses? and of course, if anyone else is going to the party and want to meet up, let me know.

The best area to stay on Samui is Mae Nam Beach or Bo Phut. Also see this story re FMP reservations etc: http://www.travelfish.org/feature/45

Hi,
I'll probably be going to that party for New Years too. I haven't finalized plans (when are they ever final?) but I'm getting into Bangkok on Dec. 19th, then after a few days heading south to find a sweet spot to party for New Years. The Full Moon party sounds like that spot. I'm also running into the accommodation problem with so many people doing basically the same thing... I'm looking more into it, but let me know how your plans are progressing and I'll do the same. Maybe we can meet up for a beer or what not... or share a boat ride.
enjoy, lev

Hi Lev,
It seems I will be in Phuket for a few days before heading to Ko Pha Ngan for the party, but like you, I don't really have any set plans. Definitely let me know about your plans and I will do the same. It would be fun to meet with other travelers since I will be traveling solo for most of my trip.

Hi Lev, Isa
I am also planning for NYE @ Koh Samui however I am not sure about the Full Moon Party. I am little confused as its not a real Full Moon Party.
By the way , Have you booked your hotels? If yes then please reommend the names.
I'll either be in Phuket or Koh Samui ( 99 % ) for NYE.
Regards
Kunal.

Just a technicality, the full moon is on Dec 21st this year. As for New Years, yes it'll be heaving busy around Had Rin the few days leading up to it. Rather than stay over on Samui though I'd just head to another part of Ko Phangan like up the west coast to Si Thanu / Chaophao, Chalok Lam or Bottle Beach on the north, Tong Nai Pan, Than Sadet, etc. down the east coast. Plenty of baht bus or longtail boats running folks to Had Rin on the big night.

You are right Captain_Bob, the party is not technically a full moon party because there is no full moon on December 31st, it's really a New Year's eve party. I definitely do not mind staying someplace else in the island, but even places far from the party on the other side of the island are mostly booked for new year's and the places that have vacancies require the 5-7 day stay. I think I will just head to Ko Phangan to search for places when I get to Thailand and if I'm not able to find anything, then I will go back to Samui.

Hi,
I don't plan on making any reservations until I get there. You never know what's going to happen, and I don't want to be locked into a plan. My current tentative plan is to head to Samui and get a place there for a few days after taking a look around. I'll commute over to the party which should add to the fun...

Hey arundown,
most def prefer to stay in phangan than samui for the party if i can, hopefully will find something on the island once I get there. It seems I will be in phangan from Dec 29 to Jan 3. Let's keep in touch so we can meet up for a drink once we get there, like I said above, I am traveling alone and looking forward to meeting up with other travelers along the way.

I'll be there as well so would love to be part of the email circle. I still think I'll stay on Samui unless one of you guys manages to get a large room to share. I don't think I'll make it down there before it fills up, but who knows... I'll probably make my way down to the islands around the 28th-ish. levbabich@gmail.com

hey everyone, i'm trying to do the same. I'm trying to get down to the islands by the 20th or so to try and scope out accomodation. My plan was to head to Ko Tao and when it gets closer to NYE if I can't find accomodation on Ko Pha Ngan then i'll just catch a ferry for that day from Koh Tao. Anyone think its foolish to just go down there without booked accommodations and try and find one? I thought most places can't be booked online?

Hello everyone,

I second to Arun, it's a pain in the ass to find an accomodation in KP. I reckon last year's NYE, we started hunting rooms 5 months in advance but to no avail. After all the booking fiasco, we ended up booking our rooms at Ban Tai beach which is few kms away from Haad Rin beach. Rooms sell like pancakes, its crazy. But most guesthouses/hostels there don't have website so if you will arrive there earlier you could prolly find a place to stay. See you in the island!
Technically, NYE2011 aint Full Moon. Last year was the real Full Moon Party/NYE. Roughly 50-60K party animal gathered and party like there's no more tomorrow. We were there and it was mental!
I will be meeting up with fellow solo-travelers in KP from Dec 29 - Jan 03. We are more or less 50 people and most of us will stay at Sandy Bungalow, Haad Rin. Thanks to one of our members who's helping us reserve the rooms. Maybe we can help you too.
If you are solo travelers too and looking for fun people to party with in KP, feel free to join us. Here's the meetup thread link.

Cheers!
Joseph
P.S. @Arun: are you the same Arun from SG that I know? hehehe

@Isa: you're welcome
try to post something in the forum as others are also looking for accomodation. There's still one left room in Sandy if I am not mistaken but it's good for 5 people. So if you can gather 4 more, then you can split the cost... Its kinda expensive thou because it's airconditioned with 3 single beds and 1 double bed. From 4000-5000THB a night.
All fan rooms and small a/c rooms are already reserved by us hehe
@Arun: see you there!!! i can't wait to go there and party with everyone... but still a month to go... urgh!
