    Hi,

I'm wondering what the best way is to get from Siem Reap to Koh Phangan. We're trying to get to the Full Moon party on New years and will be in Angkor Wat probably on Dec 30th. Do we have to go to Bangkok to head there or is there an alternate route?

    Much appreciated!

You won't make it unless you incorporate at least one flight into your plans, and even then it would be very tight.

You could fly to Phuket. It won't be direct, and it won't be cheap. It would involve a stop in Bangkok, as well as a bus over to the Gulf side. You could also fly to Koh Samui, but I think that this also involves a stop in Bangkok, and a long one at that. Again, it would be expensive, but if money is no object ...

Another option is to get the morning flight out of Siem Reap, then get an afternoon train down to Surat Thani. You'd arrive late, but you would be able to get the morning ferry to KPG on the 31st.

I don't think you'll find a practical way to get there without going through Bangkok.

Good luck finding a place to stay, though.

And considering the time of the year, and the number of flights out of SR and into Thailand each day, you would be smart to book very well in advance.

Bangkok Airways dep. Siem Reap 13:25 arr. Samui 16:35 (including a stop in BKK) would get you to Samui just in time for a boat across to Ko Phangan. Not cheap though $292 and that's if you book online ASAP otherwise it can easily be $100 more.

The cheaper more complicated way is to get an early morning shared taxi from Siem Reap to the border, tuk tuk to Aranyaprathet and bus to Bangkok. Then get an overnight train or bus to Surat Thani and connecting bus/ferry to Ko Phangan. 24+hours of travel but it might work if you leave on the 30th am.

    Train schedule here:

Then have fun finding a room/bungalow on the island, KPG will be heaving with travellers =)

You could also get a flight from BKK to Koh Samui with Bangkok Air or a flight from BKK to Surat Thani with Air Asia. Or, Nok Air and Lomprayah now have a combined ticket from BKK to Nakhon and then from there to the pier where you catch the ferry.

gahh... seems like I should just head to Bangkok for NYE :( We're on a budget so flights (unless cheap) won't work out for us.

Anyone know which spot in BKK has good parties? We're mainly looking for great bands and perhaps some authentic Thai entertainment for NYs.
