I am traveling to Luang Prabong in Laos. How is best to reach Lao Visa checkpoint at Friendship Bridge in Nong Khai from the Udon Thani Airport?
Is there a bus service catering to travelers who need to get to Laos from the Airport perhaps? Any help would be great!
Happy Traveling. Sawasdee, Chris

Hey Chris,
Sawasdee. Nobody else has responded here so I'll give it a go. There is a bus that runs from the morning market bus station in Vientiane, Laos, into Nong Khai, Thailand and then all the way down to Udorn. Unfortunately, I've only ever done the Laos to Thailand direction, so I can't comment on the other direction. There used to be a Thai Airways minivan that ran directly from the airport to the Friendship Bridge too. Sorry that my info is a bit dated now.
Have you already purchased your airline ticket in Udorn? I ask because if you are travelling from BKK to Udorn, the overnight train is a great way to get around and will take you all the way to Nong Khai and only a few KM from the bridge and Laos.
Hopefully someone else with more recent info can jump in here. Cheers.

Hi Chris, I'm traveling from UT to NK on 26/12 and this is what I was told by someone who lives in NK. "After collecting luggage at UT airport you will see a small ticket booth on right hand side of arrivals lounge. Here you can purchase a bus ticket to NK." Have fun!

Hello everyone,
Thank you all so much for the replys! We have traveled to Laos and Thailand many times but never by air to the border via UT. Thank you again. It's this specific kind of info that really impresses us. What a great resource! I found this site by chance while doing a google search on this subject.
Regards, Chris and Lamai

Hi, I know this is an old thread but my friend and I will be travelling from Phuket to udon Thani via air Asia and get into udon Thani airport at 17:25 ... As my Thai visa runs out the next day I am anxious to know if there is a bus from udon Thani airport to nong khai at that time of night and also would like a recommendation of a reasonably priced guesthouse near the friendship bridge. Any help is very appreciated.
Cheers,
Jen

I'd be very surprised if there wasn't. I flew that from Bangkok to Udon Thani in January and there were minibuses waiting at the airport to take you to either the Friendship Bridge or into NK. Can't see arriving at 17.25 being a problem - I'm sure they'll be there - I think they meet every flight where there's a baht or 2 to be made.
You can get a place in NK to stay - lots of places - and all just a short tuktuk ride to the bridge next morning.
