Hi all ! I would love to get some advice on what the best route to take would be through Thailand/Laos/Vietnam. I've got 5 1/2 weeks with my boyfriend (first trip together, eek!) starting in late April from Bangkok..
I'm not sure which direction I should go about getting to the following places.. and by bus/train/plane?
Was thinking of heading down to the south first to Krabi (to try to avoid the rainy season in May?) then I'd like to somehow travel to Laos (Luang Prabang) and Vietnam (Hoi-An) in any order..
I don't mind taking time for overland travel if it's a scenic route - but I realize I don't have much time, so i'm willing to take plane but preferably keeping prices as low as possible...
Thanks in advance !!
:)

Hi jan_ice,
Welcome to Travelfish!
First, you may want to look at our Weather map -- you'll see that May in Krabi can be pretty wet -- though not as wet as later in the year I guess.
In five weeks you could cover a fair few miles, but I think, if you're determined to see the three countries, flying isn't a bad idea.
Something like fly Bangkok to Chiang Mai, then overland to the Lao border at Chiang Khong, get the two day boat down to Luang Prabang, then overland to Vientiane, via Vang Vieng. From Vientiane, fly to Hanoi -- do some tripping around there -- eg Halong Bay, Sapa, then south to Hoi An, and on to Saigon, before flying back to Bangkok. Your Krabi bit could be tacked onto the start or end of the trip.
