been away too long

  • DLuek

    Hello people,

I've been away from SE Asia for too long! (it's been a year and a half since last big trip).

Have designs on an indefinite trip to Africa/Asia beginning this October.

But have been saving $ hard for a year and a half and looking pretty good on that front.

It's damn cold here in northeast New England, USA.

Only $1000 roundtrip Air China New York > BKK for one month (March).

Should I push the go button on a spirt of the moment trip to Thailand!?

Need some moral support from Travelfishers. To go or not to go?

    (say yes :)

    D,

You had us at hello. Absolutely. Yes. Wish I could go too! Have a great time and tell us all about it while you are there. What's on the itinerary this time? Cheers.

Yes, do it! You know you won't regret it....

I am in the same boat... it's coming up to a year since I've been away, and have been itching to get back. I booked my tickets when Air Asia launched in NZ a few months ago, so I'm all set. Mind you, it's a one-way ticket at this stage - still haven't worked out how long this trip will be, although mostly likely only a 6-8 weeker this time.

The good thing is.... it gives me a focus and something to look forward to, especially when dealing with the crappy stuff at work.

I'll be in the neighborhood at the same time, so it would be great to catch up if the travel gods work in our favour!

haha nice one man, go for it. It's always crappy to be in a cold part of the world working your ass off!

In the same position as you and Lizzy, saving up the $ (€ in my case) and just booked a trip for 1 month to thailand and laos this april (gotta get song kran festival again so...).
Just take the trip, enjoy it, come back and save some more :)!

    Thanks guys!

Not 100% sure yet but leaning big time towards going... Gonna give myself until the 1st of February to decide.

    Exacto,
Not sure on itinerary yet, but thinking of heading south this time, maybe renting a car in Chumphon or Surat Thani and leisurely heading down to Nakhon Si Thammarat and back, stopping at beaches along the way. Thinking relaxed beaches with very few (if any) foreign tourists. Also will def. go to a temple or two, stay for a bit and do the meditation thing... Maybe I'll check out Wat Suan Mokkh near Surat Thani for a few days. And of course Bangkok - got some friends to catch up with there.

    Lizzy,
If I do go it's looking like mid March to mid April... "If the travel gods" allow I'd be down to say hello.

    peace,
    DL

You already know the answer. Travelling is living, everything else is just a distraction.

That's what I've always said! Working just gets in the way of me living my life. (Admittedly it facilitates it too, but that's another issue....)

Well, I'm doing it. Just booked my ticket, mid March to mid April. Plan is to not make any plans :) Thanks for helping me decide, once the idea started rolling it was all over pretty quick!
