Hey guys,

we are planning on staying on Ko Phangan for a week and despite reading several blogs etc we are still not sure which area will be best suited for us.
We are looking for somewhere with a rather young and/or alternative crowd, but more laid back and less (or no) partying. Not completely secluded, there should be some relaxed cafes and places to eat.
(I stayed at the northern end of Sairee Beach on Ko Tao a few years ago and I quite liked taht, but it's not going to be Ko Tao this time.)
Concrete advice would be apprechiated!
Thanks

A good starting point would be this story, but going on your description, I'd be leaning towards soemwhere like Ao Plaaylaem -- if you wanted something a bit busier, perhaps Haad Salat .

Away from Haad Rin none of the beaches are that busy.
Thong Pan noi and yai are too isolated but nice beaches.
Haad Yao/Salad area is pretty good.
Bottle beach is too isolated.
