Hi! I am a 26 yr old female traveling alone to Thailand in mid January. My plan is to visit Bangkok, Ayuthaya, and Ko Samet.
I have 2 questions: (1) I would prefer to stay in a cheap little hut right on the beach, but is this safe for a female traveling alone? Would a hotel be better? (I can't afford high-end).
(2) I was thinking that it might be better to visit the island mid-week to avoid crowds, but is that safe? Will the beach be TOO deserted to be safe if I go Tuesday - Thursday? I am not looking to party, just to enjoy the beach.
Thanks!

Hi ValenciaPilgrim,
Welcome to Travelfish.
1) You should be fine - thousands of people stay in beach huts on Samet every year with very few problems -- I wouldn't suggest upgrading to more pricey accommodation because of security concerns.
2) Mid week is definitely quieter, but certainly not deserted -- Ko Samet is the nicest, closest island to a city of some 12+million people, so there's always people there.
Have fun it's a great spot
