Heya myself and my boyfriend want to go to Koh Samui from Bangkok and are wondering how other people got there and what they thought?
I know the easiest would be to fly there but we kinda want a cheap enough way of going there. We are thinking either getting one of the decent buses (24 people max) from Bangkok straight there. Have people done this?? What do you think??
Also thinking of getting the train at 8.05 from bangkok, then we would arrive at surat thani at 16.20 but I don't think any boats go around that time we would have to wait til like 11 or something??
Thanks for any help ye can give me!!
How far away is the train station from the ferry terminal?

Nok Air is very cheap and flies from Don Muang in BKK to Suratt Thani. Take a bus from the airport to the ferry across to the western side of Koh Samui. Then you can take a taxi to your favorite hotel and beach. I happen to love the Coconut Villa resort. Some very fine service with peace and tranquility at a great price. It is only about three years old and I give it 4 stars. I am a critic in the hospitality industry and I recommend this place.

Solar Air's new route BKK (Don Muang) - Chumphon (Koh Tao) WOULD BE A GREAT OPTION.Cheap flights since they are relatively new.

kOH Tao is a short boat ride from Samui approx. 2 hours.

You should consider spending a few days in Tao.Beautiful island with a very laid back feel.

    Train schedule here
    Thailand train info here

At the train station you can purchase combined train/ferry tickets including the 80km transfer from Surat Thani train station (Phunphin district) to the Don Sak pier. Second class fan sleeper costs 498/548b for upper/lower bunk plus another approximately 350b for the island transfer. Get an evening train that arrives to Surat around 6am and follow the others.

I still can't access the man in seat 61 (the second link you posted Captain Bob). Is it just my computer?

I do sometimes turn of the computer Lizzy! I haven't been able to access that site for days, always get:

Firefox can't find the server at www.seat61.com.

The cache only works for the front page. When I click on the link for Thailand I get the same message. Weird!

Have send you a message ... try to clear your browser cache. And if that doesn't work, try a different browser.

I would rather say travelling by air to Suratthani would be best with low cost airline that have promotion for now like Nok Air which offers you 1000 smth to the destination (from Don Muang Airport to Suratthani) More info. about this at
    http://www.nokair.com/s1000_obj/contents/html/en-US//hotsummersales/index.html?utm_source=NokAir_homepage&utm_medium=banner&utm_campaign=summersales_flightlist&s_cid=summersales_flightlist

However, you may also buy join tickets for bus+ferry to Koh Samui. Try below site:
