Hi,
Am heading to Phuket in may with my family, (inc 2 children 6 and 10).
Am staying in Phuket for 10 days but think this may be too long.
Am thinking of taking a trip for around 2 nights 3 days to break up the time in Phuket.
Can anyone suggest something. Only criteria is that it needs to be relatively kid friendly.
Was thinking of hiring a car for this trip, is this a good idea ??
Advice and opinions most welcome.
Cheers

Hi schooley,
Welcome to Travelfish
Ten days is a bit of a stretch on Phuket, but there are loads of things to do there. If you haven't already, you may want to read our feature of Phuket for kids.
For side trips out of Phuket, Coral and Raya Islands, Ko Phi Phi and Khao Lak are all worthwhile spots.
Hiring a car to get around in easy - mostly small 4WDs are for hire. Hope that helps

Yes, hiring a car is a good idea. You can get all kinds of cars ranging from Suzuki Caribbean that seats only two to Toyota Wish that seats 7 (or 5 and tons of luggage).
There are all kinds of things to do that are kid-friendly on and around Phuket--you can go on an elephant ride through a jungle, visit the gibbon rehabilitation centre, take them for a kids'-level muay thai training session (lots of fun, really!), go sea kayaking in Phang-Nga bay, try rock climbing at Krabi, ride a horse along the eastern shoreline of Phuket, go snorkelling (a number of good opportunities). And if they want more non-asia-specific fun, there's a go-kart circuit and a paint-ball place on Phuket. There are also a lot of national parks in the area, with trails to waterfalls through rainforest jungle. I think your time will just fly by!
