You can fly (1 hour) or go by bus (around 10-14 hours) -- that's the two main routes.
All the Thai budget carriers fly the route, so if you book far enough in advance you'll get a great deal. Bus tickets go for 500-990B depending on the company and class of the bus

What is the best way to travel from the airport to Sai Tai Mai, southern bus station? Is is a long distance and if a taxi is necessary, will they understand Sai Tai Mai with an american accent?

Hi charterboy22,
Yes it's a long way -- by taxi would probably be the quickest. If you're getting a cab from the airport, one of the attendents will be able to tell the cabbie where you're going if needed.

what is exchange rate for usd for vn dong--how and where do you get the best xchange rate--going to hanoi saigon and mekong delta--do they still have black market guys doing the xchanges
