i am hoping to travel to thailand in 2 weeks time ,with a short stay in bangkok and then aiming to catch a flight chiang Mai , i just wondered with the recent flooding what the likelyhood is off traveling across the border from Chiang Mai into Loas on land . Does anyone know is this possible at present ? Any thoughts appreciated!

Since there is no flooding at all in Laos, little to no flooding in Northern Thailand, nor along the Mekong throughout both Thailand and Laos, crossing from Chiang Mai into Laos should not be a problem.

Chiang Mai province experienced localised flooding at the end of September and some remote areas in early October. Since then there has been no flooding at all in the far north. It's also recently switched to sunny season with clear skies and no rain. Best time of the year to be here before the December crowds. Grab a flight while you still can and get up here. The way into Northern Laos is similarly flood-free.
