I recently did a snorkel tour on Koh Tao with one of the many companies advertised around the island. "Oxygen" was recommended by a woman at KP travel. It turns out the trip is falsely advertised. Our guide did not speak coherent English and we did not visit the sites listed on the itinerary. Weather definitely played a role, but instead trying to make up for the bad weather by suggesting alternative locations that might also be interesting, our guide took us to two spots right inside Mae Haad harbor where all the big boats are anchored. Not only could we have visited these spots without a guide, but the pollution from the boats made it impossible to see anything. Finally we arrived at a small island off of Koh Tao where we had been told we could snorkel or pay a 100baht entrane fee to go on shore. It turns out there isn't any snorkeling where the boat dropped us off and the boat along with our guide promptly left, telling us he wouldbe back in 3 hours. There wasn't any way for us to get back to Koh Tao and we couldn't snorkel off the dock so we had to either wait or pay the entrance fee. In addition to being unable to visit any good snorkeling spots we were only provided with masks and snorkels but no fins even though the company advertised full equipment sets. Overall we were very dissapointed with the trip and felt like we had wasted a whole day and 1300 baht.
