Hey, we are doing the Gibbon Experience in Laos and we'd like to get to the Gulf of Thailand straight after...asap. I suppose we'll come back to Huay Xai too late to be able to cross the border to Thailand on the last day of the GE so we'll probably overnight in Huay Xai. Do you think it is managable to take the 13:25 Air Asia flight from Chiang Rai the other day (to cross the border in the morning, take a bus to Chiang Rai and get to the airport to be able to check in by 12:35)?

Huay Xai immigration opens ~8am in the morning.
short hop across Mekong river to Thai immigration.
short tuktuk ride to market/bus station at southern end of Chiang Khong town.

2.5h red ordinary bus to Chiangrai old bus station (departs Chiang Khong every half hour starting from around 5am i think).
~11km songthaew/tuktuk from Chiangrai old bus station to CEI airport.
if nothing goes wrong, possible. but you have little room for delays.
think it safer to cross the border the day before & overnight in Chiang Khong.
then you can catch one of the earlier CK > CR buses. take the buses that go to CR via Phaya Mengrai or Wiang Chai, avoid the #2127 bus that goes to CR via Thoeng (longer 3h route).
