    Dear reader,

    My girlfriend and i (27/28 years) are looking for a great accomodation from dec 28 th to jan 2. The only problem for now is that we have to hurry for the reservation. There are also a lot of islands so we can't choose between (Lipe,Libong,Sukorn/Lanta) we celebrate christmas on Langkawi (Mutiara beach resort) and we want to travel by boat to an island. We heard/read that lipe is the most beautiful place but is also a little bit expensive. We just want a simple but clean bungalow for the price around 1000 bath, 25 euro. Next to the beach and quiet and less tourism. Le Dugong and Sukorn cabana resort are now our favorites.. Hmmz but maybe you people could help us what to do? Maybe we should think of an totally other place?

    All help is more then welome!! Also you can email my directly ebekema@live.nl

    I am in Thailand from 28 dec. to 27 jan (so starting from langkawi to the north and so on)

    Thnx again for all your help,

    Erik

    Hi there,

    I've never been to Ko Lanta, but was just on Lipe, Libong and Sukorn. First off, if you want to take a boat direct from Langkawi you can easily get to Lipe by ferry or speedboat but Libong and Sukorn are further north and are not on island hopping boat routes so you'd either have to pay a lot of money for a private long tail boat to get there, or go to the mainland and book a mini bus from Pakbara to the pier at Tasae (for Sukorn) or Hat Yao (for Libong).

    You say you want less tourism... Lipe is covered in tourism, but it is a beautiful island and because of the tourism there's good food options and it's a lively place. Sukorn and Libong are both very limited for food, but they are quiet and peaceful. They're also bigger than Lipe so you can rent bicycles or motorbikes and explore. If I were to choose between Sukorn and Libong I'd go with Sukorn. The beach is a little better on Sukorn, although neither have the perfect white sands turquoise water beaches like Lipe and other islands like Ko Kradan and Ko Ngai.

    Lipe is expensive overall but for simple bungalows there are some fine options around and under 1,000 baht. I recommend Lipe Beach Resort on Sunset Beach (not to be confused with Lee Pae Beach Resort on Pattaya Beach), Gipsy Bungalows, Green View on Pattaya Beach, or Porn Resort on secluded Sunrise Beach. For a little more money Castaway Resort is really good. As for Sukorn and Libong, Sukorn Cabana and Le Dugong are both good (I was at Cabana yesterday). If you go to Libong you might check out a new place called Libong Sunset Resort (www.libong-sunset-resort.com)... I personally liked it better than Le Dugong or Sukorn Beach Resort, although those are both good too.

    One more thing - since you want a less touristy experience and want to go direct by boat without doubling back to the mainland, have you considered Ko Bulon Lae? It's a very unique and beautiful island, my personal favorite, that's not too touristy or expensive. It's pretty rustic - electricity only runs from late afternoon to around 11:00 PM at most resorts, but it's a charming little island, there's nowhere else like it. And, if you took a ferry from Langkawi to Lipe, you could jump on a speedboat that runs direct from Lipe to Bulon Lae. That way you'd get to see Ko Lipe and still get the more relaxed less touristy experience of Bulon Lae. If you do go to Bulon I'd recommend Marina Resort, although that's not directly on the beach. If you want to be right by the ocean Bulone Resort or Viewpoint Resort are both fine.

    Hope that's not too overwhelming... I've been hopping around these islands a lot lately :)

    Thnx a lot DLuek!

    Yeah now we are really looking for a place in Lipe, my gf saw the Gipsy bungalows and wanted to book it. Problem is that the cheap bungalows can't book online and we really want to have a reservation for NY. (so we are gonna e-mail some places)

    By the way, how many days we should max do on Lipe? We are also want to see Koh Phi Phi and if we are 28 dec. on Lipe maybe we should go the 31 to Phi Phi and celabrate there NY...maybe.. Hmm we should see. Do you got/know any places that are free on Phi Phi?

    I am gonna look Ko Bulon Lae, but maybe that's just to quiet :) ..

    Hi Erik,

    For just Lipe I think 2 or 3 days is good. Maybe an extra day if you want to do a day trip to Ko Adang. As for going to Phi Phi it's up to you... I've never travelled in the islands around New Year's so I don't know what that will be like. Personally I'd probably stay put on Lipe or try to get to Phi Phi on the 30th or earlier. Travelling on New Year's Eve wouldn't be what I'd want to do, and Phi Phi is quite a distance from Lipe... I'm not sure exactly how you'd do that route, but I think going by land would make sense although I'm not sure. I know a speedboat runs all the way from Lipe to Lanta, and I'm guessing you can get another boat from Lanta to Phi Phi, but I've never done it so not sure. Never been to Phi Phi - I'd check this feature.

    And thanks again Dluek,

    Yeah now my plans had changed.. I just got a mail from Pakbara Travel. They have a bungalow for me at Andaman Resort typ#Beach2 (bamboo bungalow) for 1400 bath/a night , incl breakfast.

    So i want to stay there (if it's a good spot on Lipe) 28,29,30 and 31 dec go to a another island for celebrating NY. I was looking around for an island who's nearby (Ngai ?) and pay there some more for a little luxury.. Maybe Koh Ngai Resort (http://www.kohngairesort.com/) because Phi Phi is to far away (6 hours by boat i thought)

    My plans for now;

    25 Dec -> Amsterdam - Kuala Lumpur
    25 Dec -> Kuala Lumpur - Langkawi (Mutaria Beach Resort)
    28 Dec -> Langkawi - Koh Lipe (Andaman resort, 1400 a night?)
    31 Dec -> Koh Lipe - Koh Ngai ? (Celebrating NY on a good resort, where you going Dluek?)
    3 Jan -> Koh Ngai ? - Going inland...
