I am arriving in BKK late in the evening on December 4 and was planning on staying near the airport to make things less hectic after many hours of travel. However, I understand that the Kings birthday is December 5 and am concerned that things may be closed or running on very reduced capacity. should I just head in to the city after I arrive to avoid issues? can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Most bars and some stores won't be selling alcohol, but besides that and the yellow flags and decorations everywhere, you won't notice a thing
