Guess you risk it lol... I am curious about this also

If you can get down to Phuket , my boyfriend had an amaaaazing tattoo done with a guy called Am on Bangla Road. He's covered in tattoos, and has had the done in England, Spain, Phuket and Samui- the one he had done by Am is by far the best, and the cheapest!
Ahh well he had another excellent tattoo done in a shop called Samui Ink on Chaweng Beach. It was 10,000b for 12 hours work- we went in nearly every other tattoo place in that area and he was quoted 28000+, but Samui Ink was cheaper and ended up being really good (luckily) He had a half sleeve of a dragon with blue water- I have pics if u'd like to see, and can give u directions if u do end up wanting to go there. The tattoo artist is called Nu I think, he was really good and theres an English girl working in there so there's no crossed wires when you're telling them what you want. Good luck!
sweet, do they have a website? I am looking at getting part of my sleeve done in shading..That's a really good price seeing as I paid about $900 canadian for 8 hours work. I am also curious about caring for it after. Given that its prone to infection I want to make sure of the Risks. I am going to Cambodia for a few days after. I am guessing I should just keep it covered and add my cream. I was looking at getting work done the last 2 days of my trip but I will be back in Bangkok before I leave..
This is the place http://www.samuiink.net/ but the tattoo artist's name who did my boyfriend's is Nusaj namtip (not the owner Bond) and if you add him on facebook he has a load of pictures on there of his work, including my boyfriend's I think.
In terms of caring for your tattoo, if you get a bamboo one you can get it in the sun and sea straight after, but with a machine tattoo you'll need to keep it out of the sun and out of the water for at least a couple of weeks for infection reasons and to retain the colour (if you get sunburned your skin will peel and ruin the shading, and if you get it wet the scabs will fall off and take the ink with them - I've sat thought probably 24 hours altogether of tattooing with my boyfriend, and at least 3/4 of that time was in Thailand so I'm a bit of an expert haha!) my boyfriend had his done in the last couple of days of our trip, and got some bepanthen nappy ointment from the pharmacy to put on it, then he just wore a big baggy tshirt to cover it up. beware- when you walk past the suit guys they WILLA grab your new bleeding tattoo to have a look at it, and from experience (and if you're anything like my boyfriend) you will get angry haha!
Ok here goes...
Mr. Yai is in Bangkok on Koh Sahn road. Dont let that put you off. His shop is upstairs in the building with the huge sign for Silk Bar on it. Myself and my girlfriend got work done from him and they both turned out amazing. Yai is a true proffesional and a great tattooist. I paid THB 6'000 for about 4.5 hours of highly detailed work, including some color.
If you can make it to Chiang Mai, go see Tam at Art Tattoo on Loi Kroh road. Dont confuse Art Tattoo with Naga Tattoo, they are only a few blocks apart. Tam is an amazing artist and did a 7 hour marathon quarter sleeve piece on my arm, and it is absolutely amazing. He freehanded almost the entire thing and the detail work is insane. More expensive here, similar to US prices but the quality of work is just amazing. There is another guy, a frenchman who works in that shop who is really great as well, but I didnt personally get any work done from him.
Finally...If you are in Cambodia, go see Mark Guru in Sihounoukville at Sinville Tattoo. Its right across from the Fortuna Casino near the golden lion monument. Mark is an intersting guy, from the UK, and def. has his quirks. I equated him to like the Mad Scientist of tattooing. He seems absent minded, or all over the place, but he really does amazing tattoo work. I got a Bayon carving piece on my forearm, and I have never seen anything else like it. It truly lookes to be carved from stone. Mark has good prices and also sells aftercare stuff in his shop.
If you drop me an email I will send you pictures of these pieces if you are interested.
Also if you do get a tattoo in SE Asia, you can buy Bepanthen at any pharmacy and it is the best tattoo aftercare ointment I have ever used, and I have never seen it in the states.
Good luck man, there is some amazing talent in Thailand as far as tattoo's are concerned, if you go to these guys you wont be dissapointed.

thanks to both of you!!! I am leaning more toward Bangkok as I want to hit the water and will be in Bangkok for the last few days of my trip. I am curious about this Mr. Yai you speak of. Thats a decent price for 4.5 hours work. I dont think what I am getting will take any longer. I started a sleeve and want the inside of my Bi/Tri done.
Does he have a website with pic? I am going to look
I dont think Yai has a website. Just go have a chat with he and his wife and they will set you up an appt. Both super super nice people and they have a cute dog as well.

awesome thanks again... I am looking for straight shading - no colour!! I will have a look around.. MY main concern is making sure the needles are clean. I dont need to be catching anything.. I have been looking around but there does not seem to be many links to artists in Bangkok - most are on the Islands
If you are looking for an excellent tattooist with a nice clean shop, I recommend this one "Mimptattoo". I did the tattoo full on my arms last year with him. The work is great and the price is reasonable. Check out his website www.mimptattoo.com
