Help! Koh Tao to Koh Phangan? Koh Phangan then back to Bangkok?

  • meeshakar

    Hi,

I have quite the trip planned coming up next week. We are spending considerable time in Cambodia, then headed to the islands for a bit. We are planning on taking the overnight train from Bangkok to Koh Tao (Chumphon) then the ferry over to Koh Tao.

    - First question, how do you purchase the first class tickets? They say they are sold out, so just reserve the second class and possibly upgrade at the train station when we get there?

Okay, then after we get to Koh Tao, we are going to spend about a week there scuba diving. Then head over to Koh Phangan for basically relaxing the rest of our trip and enjoying the sun and water.

    - Second question, is there an easy way to get to Koh Phangan from Koh Tao? How so? Then when its time to head back up to Bangkok, is the best way to head over to Surat Thani and take a flight to Bangkok? How far is Surat Thani from Koh Phangan? What is the route to get there?

I am just hoping someone knows these different questions, I have been googling information all night and figured this might be the best place to get a straight answer.

    Thanks so much!!!
    Kari

Boats run in between all of the islands. The fastest method is on the http://www.lomprayah.com/
However there is no lomprayah from KPG to Surat thani. The quickest way back to bangkok is take the http://www.lomprayah.com/ to Koh Samui then fly with http://www.bangkokair.com/en/index.php back to bangkok.

It might sound daunting now but seriously it is VERY easy.

There are plenty of boats from Koh Phangan to Surat Thani where you can then get a flight to BKK. Lomprayah and Raja both do this route and it takes 2.5 to 4 hours depending on which company you use (by ferry and bus to the town). They both sell combined tickets to the airport from the pier.

You can also go to Samui and get a flight from there to BKK.

If you don't want to fly you can also get a bus or train to BKK from Surat Thani.
