Seeing as the best rates we getting here is 40/41 baht per GBP what is the rate if you change money out there, is it better to do a few large cash machine withdrawls and pay the commission or take GBP and exchange at banks?

Take cash to start and change it to baht at SuperRich, where you will get the best rate. Aeon ATM's are the only ones that don't have a local fee. Unfortunately, they are not at the airport, so change a small amount when you arrive and the balance at SuperRich. TC's are only 33 baht per transaction, but you will be charged 150 baht on every cash withdrawal at an ATM.
