Is the water at the beaches in December in Southern Thailand warm enough to play in?

Okay, I'm assuming you are talking of NON BEACH locations.
From that viewpoint, I reckon Kanchanaburi 2 hours by bus out of Bangkok is a good one. Try to combine some time in town with an upcoutry destination (jeez Stewy, when are you going to print my Kanchanaburi reviews? Or maybe they weren't up to scratch).
And Khao Sok National Park not too far from many beach locations is another one worth checking.
