Hello Globe-Trotters,
We are planning to travel to Thailand around October 17 - November 2 which is Monsoon Weather with tons of rain. We want to visit the Southern Islands and attend the Full Moon Party at Ko Phangan on Tuesday, October 30.
After reviewing Travelfish and other sources online regarding the weather, how bad is the rain going to be around this time in those areas? Is it worth going to the Full Moon Party at this time of the year where there is potential for torrential downpours and likely less people and therefore lame? It sounds pretty bad but at the same time, some well seasoned travellers have expressed a positive sunny experience.
I know at the end of the day we can't predict the weather. So I'm just trying to hedge our bets and figure out if we should bother or pick another month to go.
Please advise. Much appreciated.

You have two problems. Firstly, the FMP is a disgrace. Deaths, rapes, drink spiking, drugs, jail time are common. Why on earth you would want to go thru that I don't know. Idiotic Loserville.
Secondly, Late Oct to Dec can be a bad time for rain on those gulf islands. It can flood real bad but every year is different.
You are better off going to Phuket-Phi Phi-Krabi. They have bars too if you are desperate to get wasted and lots of beach actitivies.

Along with rain which is common around KPG in Oct-Nov you can get rough seas which make for dangerous boat rides and every year there are boat crashes/sinkings and people drown, and overloading of speedboats is commonplace right before and after FMP. Can rain either coast in Oct - statistically not the best time to go to the beach although I've lucked out a couple times and got sunny days with an evening thundershower or two. It's the tropics so very unpredictable troppo weather.
