New bus terminal Phuket Town??

Posted by Pigsy on 17/5/2012 at 18:25

Read online that a new bus terminal has opened in or just out of Phuket Town. Anyone tried it. Anyone know reasonable hotel close as I will fly in and prob depart next day to Hua Hin via Surat and train. Much more comfy than bus IMO
................Thanks

Hua Hin is closer to BKK than it is to Phuket. You are better off going through there.

I know the new terminal is in Ratsada near Mission Hospital but I do not know of any accomodations in the area.

I passed thru the old Phuket bus station 2 weeks ago to catch the Airport Bus up to Nai Yang.
On reflection it seemed to me that fewer big coaches were in the docks.

And something I've not seen before - the songthaews to the beaches were calling in, stopping briefly in the bays the bigger buses (used to?) use.

Anyone know how many buses per day go to Surat thani from Phuket or more specifically Phun Phin train station I suppose theres heaps. Anyone know timings of departures?? I believe about 6 hrs on the big bus. I too big falang for minibus and too old to be cramped up for 4+ hrs!!

Google sawadee.com's transport page.

I was on a Phuket , Khao Lak , Khao Sok, Surathani bus a month ago - this called by Phun Phin station.

I did the return trip in a minivan which does a more direct route by-passing Khao Sok and Khao Lak - this did not call in at the train station, but I bet it would if you asked.
Thing is I don't know where this starts in Phuket town (they dropped us off roadside abt 600m from the old Phuket bus station) but I bet small travel desks and accommodation places on Phuket will know and can book. These vans run from the Surathani end hourly.

Pigsy, please bring us up to date on what you find out about the bus station. That new one has been ready for a couple of years but has the downside of being further from most of Phuket town's accommodation.

Thanks. Informative article - looks like the new station is a goer. And I like the sound of the fixed price taxi board. And the 10baht bus into Phuket town central.
But I'm not sure where the station is - would appreciate if you could give some indication of distance and direction from town central.

It's located a few kilometers north of Phuket Town, along the mainroad.

Yep Pretty much as desdibed in the above link. Most of the longer distance buses leave from this terminal and you can get a 'Pink bus" (10baht) from the old bus station on Phangha road, Takes about 15mins and is a little inconvienent if you have a lot of bags on a humid sweaty day. :-)
