Hi,
I'm from Malaysia and want to know which is the quickest and affordable way to get to Chiang Mai from KL?
I hear the train will take days, I don't have the time. What about bus/budget airline? Does anyone know?
Please help, thanks.

If you want cheaper than 229MYR then a couple of days on buses (changing in BKK) is really your only option, and I can't imagine it costing any less than 150MYR.

Cheapest - government bus. Take about 10 hours I would think.
Fastest - flying. About one hour.

10 hours from CM on a bus will get you to BKK... BKK to KL on a bus... No thanks!

Walking is the cheapest option.
Budget airline can be the cheapest way provided you have flexible travel dates. Tuesdays and Thursdays tend to have the lowest fares so you can take advantage of that.

KL-CM by road is over 2200km, count on about 36 hours by bus, with changes/delays at Butterworth, Hat Yai, and Bangkok.
KL-CM direct flight takes 2h45m

I started out with the very false assumption that he was flying to Bangkok first. OK, from KL there is one realistic option - to fly.

Tidak mahal-lebih murah bagus:
BAS to HYai-go midweek, haggle with the ticketsellers at Pudu-30-50 MYR
SEATin 3d cl. rapid train to BKK- about 400/500 (40/50 MYR)
Ditto in the 3d night-tren/kereta api to CNX-or seat in 2nd cl. bus.
So: it can -with perseverance, be done for a few ringgit less as 150-but not that much.
Also check AA from Hyai to CNX-1 daily flight-often deeply diskon (more expensive the other way-as so many illegal workers for MY use it)
