this year i will be spending a few days on ko maak , after i plan on going to phnom penh , how long will this take , also what border crossing should i use

IF you mean the koh Mahk near Trat -then there is just 1 rather obvious border: Haat lek-into Koh Kong/Camb. Read travelfish.org for all further advice. YOUR place you stay on there will have all the info on how to get to either back to Trat or maybe even another-likely very pricey though- boat toward that border. there really is no reason to worry about all that now. No boat wil take you right into Khmerland.
