Hi I am travelling with my husband to bangkok from ko chang on the 13 December. We need to be at the airport at 4pm and cannot seem to find any definite arrival times for local buses or mini vans so we were thinking of getting a taxi. But is it going to cost the earth? Do not want to get ripped off! Any advice would be appreciated

It is okay.
I think you can get bus this time too, but
Taxi is good, I don`t remember but price was around 3000 Baht/oneway
And it stop when you want eat, visit toilet or something.
Happy travelling

You're cutting it very thin timewise when you include time to get to the ferry, do the crossing, and get to Trat to find a taxi. It's about 300km from Trat to Suvarnabhumi airport so allow at least 4 hours. For a private taxi I usually count on about 1000 baht per 100km or per hour plus fuel so a resonable private fare would be 4000-5000b. That's a lot of dough for the priviledge of staying one more night on the island.

The first question that came to my mind even before I read Captain Bob's post is why would you not depart the day before. If the taxi has an accident, or you run into a serious traffic jam, you could easily miss you flight. Why impose that kind of stress on yourself?

I agree with Captain_Bob and MADMAC. My standard operating practice is to get back to Bangkok at least one night before my scheduled return flight. That way I can relax, take care of any last minute business or shopping, and get to the airport stress-free and in plenty of time.

Hi guys thanks for the input! Good news I got sorted. It turned out with more investigation it was easy enough to organise. For future reference for anyone, we got the 6 am mini bus from ko chang which cost 500 baht each and it got us there at 12.30. Loads of time. Private car rental was going to be 2800 including ferry ect.

I still wouldn't do it though. That means you have to get up at 5 AM. Uggg. I'd definitely go the day before.

Yeah up at 5.30 on the bus for 6. It doesn't bother us being up early it suited fine.

Well, it's up to you. The idea of getting up early, taking a long ride to the airport, then getting on a plane for a long ride is extremely unappealing to me. Like Exacto, when I fly I always get to Bangkok the day before at least.
