Hi all,
Just a quick one, may sound daft as you can do it here in the uk.
If I have a train ticket from Surat Thani to Bangkok will I be able to board the train further up the route say at chumphon, if I am coming from koh Tao area rather than krabi area.
Or will my seats be re allocated to somebody else if I don't board at Surat Thani?
Can't find this info anywhere so if anyone can help it would be great.

maybe. Your ''seat/bed MAY be rented out to someone else- the conductor has the right to do so for any late arrivals or ''standby'' after 15 or 20 mins after departure from booked station. This is not specific Thai: in fact this rule came-like most railway-way of doing things, from the European railways-that till right now also have the very same rule of handling. As in fact also on exBR-now whatever they have granted a concession. But the actual nr of people wanting to either upgarde onboard (from a hell-seat) or just boarding by chance is very, very small. As this is TH and the SRT one of its most corrupt institutions (which they defend by always telling the pay is so little) more likely is the conductor has sold it for some teamoney to someone he knows.

On the back of the ticket the following is printed: "Please board at the originating station specified on the ticket: otherwise, the reservation will be cancelled automatically."
