Which island would you recommend an elephant trek. We are staying longer in Koh Samui - 8 nights - is this a good island for them?

There's a large swathe of land on the southern side of Samui which does a lot of the elephant rides. taking into account that the novelty of riding an elephant wears off after about 15 minutes, it's more than adequate. There's little to separate the two (Samui and Phuket) though I'm not sure just where they do it on Phuket.
Costs would be marginally lower on Ko Samui.

my wife definitely agrees that the novelty wears off after just a few minutes. she loved the experience, but was glad that she just did a quick ride around the UNESCO area in Ayutthaya rather than an hour-long jungle trek in Chiang Dao. some mahouts will let you ride on the neck with them rather than sit on the saddle.
