It's 120 km due north of Chiang Mai, so border-hoppers might go up and back in a day or stop over at Chiang Dao, Doi Angkhang, Mae Ai, Thaton, etc. See a lonely but beautiful corner of the far north.

It has already been a locals-only crossing for many years, but now appears to be a full international crossing in the works. "They" have been discussing opening up this border crossing for a long time now, and the fact that it is being announced on a farang-oriented English language source suggests it's the real deal.
