New border crossing in Chiang Dao district planned
"Chiang Mai Getting Ready to Open Kiw Pa Wok Border Crossing to Burma in Chang Dao"
It's 120 km due north of Chiang Mai, so border-hoppers might go up and back in a day or stop over at Chiang Dao, Doi Angkhang, Mae Ai, Thaton, etc. See a lonely but beautiful corner of the far north.

Thanks for the headsup Capt' but any idea if this will be a full international crossing or a locals/border pass affair?

It has already been a locals-only crossing for many years, but now appears to be a full international crossing in the works. "They" have been discussing opening up this border crossing for a long time now, and the fact that it is being announced on a farang-oriented English language source suggests it's the real deal. Good excuse for a motorbike ride next month, go check it out
